Medical Acupuncture in North Scottsdale AZ and Phoenix Has Come Along Way
Medical Acupuncture has grown to become one of the fastest healing arts in this country. Acupuncture is a form of Chinese medicine that has been practiced for over 5000 years and is among the oldest healing practices in the world. As part of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), acupuncture aims to restore and maintain health through the stimulation of specific points on the body. The oldest medical book known, written in China 4000 years ago, describes the use of acupuncture to treat medical problems. It’s partly based on the theory that energy, called chi, flows through and around your body along pathways called meridians. The Yin-Yang theory is the concept of two opposing, yet complementary, forces that shape the world and all life. Health is an ongoing process of maintaining balance and harmony in the circulation of qi. Modern research has shown that when medical acupuncture points are stimulated the body releases different hormones such as: endorphins, enkephlins as well as other hormones, such as elevated cortisone levels.
How is Medical Acupuncture Performed
Medical Acupuncture is done by putting very thin needles into your skin at certain points on your body. This is done to influence the energy flow. Sometimes heat, pressure, or mild electrical current is used along with needles. Medical acupuncture’s goal is to restore balance to the body’s energy balance by utilizing a combination of acupoints located on the twelve meridians. I am frequently asked how many treatments does it take and how long are the sessions. Obviously the number of treatments vary with different conditions and individuals. Chronic problems generally require more treatment than acute ones. Some patients notice an immediate improvement after the first treatment, whereas others many not notice any effect until they have gone through several sessions. We don’t have a “box” treatment for our patients and work with them on an individual basis. All our needles that we use in our medical acupuncture are sterile and disposable. Most of the time there is little to no pain unless used on the more sensitive areas that include the fingers, toes or feet. Experience makes a difference!
Medical Acupuncture may be used for conditions such as:
- Low back pain
- Neck pain
- Sports injuries
- Migraine/tension headaches
- Acute and chronic pain syndromes
- Neurological problems
- Many other conditions
